Bread From Heaven, Part 2
Satisfied
“At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. Then you shall know that I am the LORD your God….‘Gather of it, each one of you, as much as he can eat…whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack. Each of them gathered as much as he could eat.” (v.11,16,18)
The Lord loves to satisfy… to “fill us up”… to bring us what we need. Did you happen to notice how God brought the Israelites what they said they missed from Egypt? Look at verse 3: “…we sat by the meat pots and ate bread to the full…” This is what Israel was whining and grumbling about. They longed for meat and bread to the full. They thought that their path to “meat and bread to the full” would mean going back to slavery… back to Egypt.
God provides for us GENUINELY and FULLY what we hope to find in these other people / things /places that we become slaves to. Those things that we “hunger” for, the Lord is the source and provider. He wants to give us our fill and satisfy our souls. He doesn’t just tease us with scraps and small morsels… no… he gives us “as much as we can eat”. God is not stingy. God is not withholding. He simply asks us to come to him and “gather” what he has provided.
Some of us can “gather a lot” and some of us can only “gather a little”, but look at what happens: “whoever gathered much had nothing left over, and whoever gathered little had no lack.” (v.16) Nothing is wasted with God… no left overs! No one leaves the table hungry with God either… there is “no one lacking”. This is the nature of supernatural provision from God.
The things that they missed from Egypt - bread to the full and meat - God delivered that in the wilderness. They ate those foods as ones who were free from Egypt, no longer slaves. No one was left hungry. Everyone was satisfied. This cycle happened DAY ATER DAY… not just once and a while. God’s consistently satisfying the hunger of his people. The problem is NOT that we get hungry… the question is where will we turn for food? In our hunger to we run back to that which enslaves us? Or in our hunger do we come to the Lord and trust him to provide and to satisfy. Have you even been perfectly full? Satisfied? You feel comfort and rest… you feel content. When God meets our needs, this is the sort of contentment that comes about. This is “Manna-Life”. This is “Daily-Bread-Living”. This is the feasting with the Lord. Here is to being FULL with what the Lord has fed us with! Amen to that, Love you guys. - JDP
